Jackie Clayton » Bio

Ms. Clayton is truly a jack of all trades at McDowell Academy for Innovation. She has multiple positions at MAI, for instance, since she is a certified Medical Responder, she can be a fill-in for the nurse if the nurse is off-campus, and she teaches academic support classes, which is her main position at the school as an Instructional Facilitator.  If the school needs a spreadsheet, Ms. Clayton is the go-to person to get that task accomplished. She helps keep track of student attendance at the school, and she even organizes things like birthday cakes for staff, and signing get well cards for staff at the school.

Ms. Clayton attended Isothermal Community College and while she was there she had a 4.0 GPA. She received her degree in Criminal Justice.  The reason she went into working in the school system is to be where her kids were, and so she could work with students teaching them valuable life skills.

For her first career, Ms. Clayton worked as a Deputy Sheriff for Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and McDowell Sheriff’s Office and a police officer for Asheville Police. She later came to work in the school system, so she could help students in their lives.  At MAI, she is constantly busy all over the school helping others. Ms. Clayton is also our part-time nurse when Ms. Newton is busy and needs help.

Ms. Clayton also has a life outside of school. In her free time, she likes to read mystery books. Her favorite author is Patricia Cornwell. Ms. Clayton’s favorite holiday is Christmas, because she likes to spend it with her family and friends.

As you can see, Ms. Clayton is a very valuable staff member at MAI. She will do just about anything to help a student succeed in school.  Her hard work and dedication to MAI is unparalleled and much appreciated by everyone at the school.
